How To Choose The Right NGO For CSR : Ek Sankalp

The corporates can meet their social responsibility and implement the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programs by offering funds and grants to the non-profit organizations or NGOs. The Companies Act 2013 clearly states that companies (with a net worth of 500 crores and more) should contribute 2% of their profit towards fulfilling their social responsibility, and they can reach to an NGO for CSR in India. The CSR programs are aimed towards making a positive and desired impact on societal living standards of those who are poor economically.

There are a number of NGOs in India that may seem to be an appropriate option, but a company should undertake careful scrutiny to choose the right NGO for CSR.

Looking at the compatibility of the partners

While it’s necessary to look into aspects including financial sustainability, and legal compliance among others, the firm should also check and evaluate the nature of work, and reporting, among other aspects of the NGO performance and benchmarks.

Running the test

While an NGO may be quiet large and may have a national and international network and presence, it still may not be able to deliver on the particular CSR project of your business firm. Other local NGOs that have local roots may be able to do the project better, even with lesser resources. Therefore it is important to run the required tests, and see whether an NGO functions at the root and local level for the project or not.

Choosing a reputed NGO

Some NGO networks and organizations have more repute and fame because of their successful social uplifting projects, environmental campaigns, and other programs that have been successfully implemented. Choosing a reputed NGO is always preferable because of the credibility, reliability, and trust involved.

Businesses can fulfill their CSR responsibilities carefully only when they give ample time and attention towards choosing the best of implementation partners and NGOs.
